52 - Parah

Saya telah meng'emel'kan surat tidak puas hati saya kepada pihak berkuasa. Nasib yang bakal diterima tidak diketahui lagi.

Dear All,

Bill of Quantities and Final Account Preparation Programme for January 2008 have been circulated to all staff and directors of PNFL. From the BQ Programme we already can imagine on the potential for PNFL economic growth along the 2008 path. However, there is always a room for improvement.

In view of that, we may start from the BQ Programme which has been received by all of us. PNFL consist of 70% of Malay QS/QSA and 30% of Non-Malay QS/QSA not including the site staff and directors. Unfortunately, in my opinion the manpower on the preparation of the BQ has not been fully utilized by the company although the needs of manpower are highly needed. From the Programme we can see that the Malay staff has been 100% fully utilized for the BQ but only three (3) people out of ten (10) Non-Malay staff are involved in the BQ preparation. Beside, some of the Malay QS/QSA has been assigned with two (2) or three (3) numbers of BQ.

I wonder if they have a quality time to spend with their family during non-office hour as the load of work for BQ is so high. I do understand due to high cost of living therefore the need to make extra money is unavoidable. However, live is not all about money and luxury. Family is the utmost important thing in our live. If the family institution breaks therefore it will also affect the productivity of work at the office.

Working at the office late night and non stop from Monday to Sunday and soon to the next week can also affect the health of the staff. Some of the staff even sleepy during office hour as they have to stay late until the morning for several days. The risk of making mistake is very high at this stage. We need to bear in mind that a single mistake can caused a bad reputation to PNFL name.

I am not saying that we should stop doing the BQ. Preparation of BQ is the heart of every consultant QS firm. "No BQ" can be summarized as "no JOB". We should be thankful as we have a lot of BQ to work with. But the work force need to be fully utilized to ensure the BQ produced is highly reliable and finish on time.

In my opinion, the other Non-Malay QS/QSA also needs to be given an opportunity to do the BQ and share the same work load as all other QSA/QSA. If the main reason for not involving them in the preparation of BQ caused by Final Account, the reason is not concrete enough as the other QS/QSA are also doing the same plus with the other work. Furthermore, I do not think that the Final Account will be done at home or during late night at the office as we does with the BQ as the crucially and urgency is not the same.

PNFL already move forward into the international level of construction industry. There is no racial or discrimination shall be allowed to ensure that we step into the international level not as a Malay or Chinese or Indian but as a MALAYSIAN.

In view of the above, I hope we will share the same work load, vision and mission. Together we move forward to continuously provide reliable, technically excellent and value for money quantity surveying and cost consultancy services to our client.

As what being said in the Scorpions song:

CAUSE WE ALL LIVE UNDER SAME SUN, WE ALL WALK UNDER THE SAME MOON YEAHHH!!! BUT WHY? TELL ME WHY?? CANT WE DO THE BQ AS ONE!!

Thank you.
